Many children and adolescents, especially those with anxiety, do not seek out psychological treatment, and may be unwilling to engage in therapy. This can be frustrating for parents, who believe they need treatment but cannot “force” the child/adolescent to attend or participate.
When Individual Therapy Isn't an Option
Sometimes, children and teens aren't ready or willing to actively engage in therapy. That's where our parent-focused approach steps in—research shows that empowering parents can be as effective as individual therapy for addressing anxiety and behavioral issues in children and teens. Our mission is to equip parents with a strategic plan, drawn from evidence-based methods, to support your child or teen.
Whether your child has school-related concerns, anxiety, depression, or behavioral issues, our program caters to all parents:
Parents of young children who are not yet suitable for individual therapy.
Parents whose children refuse therapy, offering an alternative pathway.
Busy families who cannot accommodate therapy into their after-school routines.
Solution-seekers who prefer a concise, results-driven approach over longer-term therapy.
How Our Program Works
Active parental involvement is crucial in treating behavioral or emotional issues effectively. The Parent Problem-Solving Program is designed to “jump-start" this critical involvement and aligns with research demonstrating significant progress when parents partner directly with our therapist.
Our program typically includes 4-6 personalized sessions with a therapist. The intervention we offer is:
Individualized: One-on-one discussions prioritize your concerns, with tailored strategies for your family.
Solution-Focused: Set immediate, concrete goals and action plans, honing in on the changes you can make right now.
All sessions are conducted between 10 am and 2 pm to suit daytime schedules, and most are eligible for coverage by insurance for those holding Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO or Traditional plans.

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (“SPACE”) Program
Recent research brings promising insights: certain supportive parenting methods can significantly reduce your child's anxiety, rivaling the effectiveness of individual therapy. Enter the innovative SPACE program, developed by Dr. Eli Leibowitz, offering impressive outcomes—all without your child needing to attend therapy sessions. Instead, therapy focuses solely on you, the parent.
Unlike traditional parent training, where parents act as therapists for their children, the SPACE program takes a different approach. It doesn't hinge on changing your child's behavior; rather, it empowers you to better respond to your child's anxiety. Thriving Minds is pleased to offer the SPACE program tailored for parents of anxious children and adolescents. Learn more about the SPACE program here.
