Approach to Treatment
Dr. Thomson aims to combine a warm, friendly approach with a clear, directive style, so that patients and families feel supported but also gain the knowledge/skills necessary to address their concerns. Working collaboratively with parents, schools, and other care providers is a top priority for Dr. Thomson, as a strong team approach is essential for generating measurable progress. She hopes that patients and families will build skills and confidence in therapy, so they can feel empowered to navigate challenges independently. While staying grounded in evidence-based strategies, Dr. Thomson’s goal is to be flexible and help individual patients and families incorporate techniques into their lives in a feasible and meaningful way.
Areas of Expertise
Dr. Thomson specializes in treating anxiety, OCD, selective mutism, and school refusal.
She also completes psychoeducational evaluations to assess for a variety of learning, behavioral, and emotional concerns.
She incorporates evidence-based treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure/response prevention (ERP), and parent management training (PMT).
Dr. Thomson is passionate about educating and sharing helpful techniques with parents and other stakeholders (e.g., school teams). She offers support to parents through parent problem-solving sessions , as well as by including them in individual therapy sessions.
Age Range: Children and adolescents (ages 3-18)
Experience and Training
Dr. Thomson earned her PhD in School Psychology from Michigan State University in 2018. She has experience treating children/adolescents with a variety of behavioral health concerns in clinic, hospital, and school settings. She completed specialized training within several school districts in mid- and southeastern-Michigan, as well as through Michigan Medicine’s Department of Pediatric Psychology.

Dr. Thomson loves adventuring and traveling with her husband, Dave; some of her favorite destinations to date are South Africa, Indonesia, Spain, Morocco, and Argentina. She believes there is so much to gain from new and unfamiliar experiences (whether far away or close-to-home) – a take-away she incorporates into her work with patients and families as well! Dr. Thomson also enjoys staying active and getting outdoors, especially hiking, biking, and visiting all of the parks with her toddler. She loves animals, especially her rescue dog, Chance.
